Baking Brownies!

Welcome back to my blog, hope you’re all enjoying the posts so far. For today’s blog post I decided that I would try and make some brownies from scratch. Whenever I’ve made them before, I always used the packets where you just add eggs. So I knew it was time to try them out and see if they would turn out any better. After making them this time round, I knew I’d never go back to packet mixes.

The recipe that I used is from the ‘Good to Know’ website, and it was just titled ‘Chocolate Brownies’. They were absolutely amazing, and the best part is – they weren’t expensive or hard to make. I’m having a little play around with the format of my blog and seeing which is the most popular. The ingredients are shown below, and if you scroll over the pictures, it tells you how much of everything you need.

Step 1 – Preheat your oven to Gas Mark 4/180C/350F and then melt your chocolate. This needs to be the first thing that you do, because it needs to be cool before you can put it in the mixture. The recipe I used said to melt it over hot water, but if you’re like me and HATE doing dishes, just melt it in the microwave for about 60 seconds, or until it is melted. It really won’t make a difference to the taste.

Step 2 – Make sure your butter is soft. Do not make the mistake that i made and try and make it softer in the microwave and end up melting it. It needs to be soft enough to be whisked together with your caster sugar into a creamy mix, but not melted. If it isn’t soft, and you’re impatient waiting for it to soften, you can go straight ahead and whisk it, it will just take a bit longer for it to blend together with your sugar.

Step 3 – In a separate bowl, beat your eggs until they are fully mixed. Then, when your butter and sugar mixture is fully blended, gradually add your eggs. Make sure that the mix comes together fully before adding more eggs.

Step 4 (Optional) – The recipe I used says to use a tsp of Vanilla essence. However, its not a necessity. If you don’t like vanilla, you don’t have to use it and it won’t destroy the taste of your brownies. If you want to add vanilla, it would be added at this stage.

Step 5 – Making sure that your melted chocolate has cooled, you should now pour this into your brownie mixture and stir it until the mixture has fully blended.

Step 6 – Sieve your flour and cocoa powder into the mixture and stir it all. Once the mixture is fully mixed, it is ready to be put into a pan and put in the oven. However, you can add any other toppings into the mixture. I would suggest chocolate chips or nutella for a more gooey brownie.

Step 7 – Pour your mixture into a buttered/greased square tin and make sure that the mixture is even throughout to avoid different thicknesses. Leave in the oven for about 30 minutes. If you prefer a less gooey brownie, leave in for an extra 10 minutes.

Step 8 – When your brownies are cooked to your liking, leave them to cool for about 30 minutes. They are then able to be sliced. Or if you want to eat them warm, cut them up and serve with your favourite flavour ice cream. They would go amazing with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce.

And that’s it! It may look like a lot of steps, but it is so easy. Its literally putting your ingredients into a bowl and mixing them.
